Operation Linda Boni restores Lamu calm.
The
operation was launched on September 11 by Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph
Nkaissery to flush militants.
The
militants have been launching attacks in Lamu and Garissa counties from the
forest.
Speaking to
journalists in Mokowe on Monday, head of the operation James ole Serian said
the government is committed to ensuring peace, security and calm returns.
He said
residents who were living in camps inside the forest were moved to their
villages, where they are being provided security.
More than
3,000 residents had vacated Pandanguo, Basuba, Milimani, Mangai, Mararani and
Kiangwe villages in Lamu East to pave way for the operation.
Serian said
each village is now guarded by more than 50 armed police.
He said they
are sinking boreholes in Basuba ward to end water shortage in the area.
"We have
provided 24-hour security for all villages in Basuba. The police officers
patrol the villages round the clock. People should rest assured of adequate
security,” Serian said.
He said nine
new police posts have been set up around the forest.
"Terrorists
have been finding it easy to cross to Lamu through the forest and launch
attacks. We have sealed all gaps they used,” Serian said.
He praised
residents for cooperating with security officers.
