Security forces arrest 28 Somalis near Kenya northeast border
Garissa County Commissioner James Kianda said the group,
consisting of 11 women and 17 men, were traveling aboard a hired private
vehicle.
Kianda said members of the public informed the police, who
quickly rushed to place and found the stranded aliens after their vehicle
developed mechanical problem.
"The aliens decided to use the Balambala-Garissa route
instead of the Dadaab-Garissa one to evade a massive security operation on the
route by Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) and police. But fortunately members of the
public informed us of their presence,” Kianda said.
He said that the aliens, who did not have any paper documentation, will be locked at the Garissa police station before being arraigned in court Friday to answer to charges of being in the country illegally.
