President of the federal republic of Somalia Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has called out for an immediate cease-fire and reconciliation among the warring in Galkayo town, Mudug regional capital.

"It is unfortunate to shed the blood of Somali citizens again. People in Galkayo deserve peace and stability. The fighting should be stopped soon and end the dispute through dialogue,” said Mr Mohamud in a statement.

Somali president Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has sent heartfelt condolences to the families and friends who lost their loved ones in Galkayo conflict between Galmudug and Puntland forces.

"The renewed conflict is a setback to the recovery of the country and the state building, so I urge an immediate ceasefire by ‘all parties’ involved in Galkayo war,” read the statement.

The president’s statement comes as Somali PM Omar Abdirashid Sharmarke, along with ministers, MPs and leaders of Jubbaland and South-west states went to Galkayo on Sunday for mediation talks to end the conflict.
