Government troops carry out a sweep in Barawe, arrest Al shabaab suspects
Somali troops, along with the African Union forces have jointly carried out a security sweep in the southern port city of Barawe on Sunday.
Barawe’s deputy Commissioner Bashir Mohamed Yusuf told media the allied troops detained several people suspected to be Al shabaab elements mixed into the population.
Bashir said the arrested suspects are being held at Barawe
police station for questioning, adding that the innocents will be freed while
the everyone found guilty will face the justice.
The joint forces have been conducting operations aimed at security the seaside city that was once served as the main Al shabaab stronghold before it fell to SNA and AMISOM in Oct 5, 2014.
