Members of the Somali Federal Parliament has on Monday overwhelmingly passed national media after discussions and amendments made earlier as the statement says.

Speaker of the Somali Federal Parliament, Hon. Mohamed Osman Jawari said National Lawmakers took a vote for the media law which was among other laws tabled before the parliament.

Mr. Jawari said, " 142 gathered at the house of the people today, 139 voted yes to the media law, three were silent and nobody rejected it there it is approved, journalists have a law for profession”.
State Minister of the Ministry of Information, Mohamud Abdi thanked Parliamentarians for approving the new law of the media.

The State Minister said, " It is great historic for our media today, it is for the first time we are having media since the collapse of the central government in 1991”.

Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism of the Federal Republic of Somalia, H.E. Mohamed Abdi Hayer welcomed the approval of the media law and thanked parliamentarians for passing the law.
Mareye, the Minister said, " This media law comprises of 40 articles, this will be put into practice and implemented as soon as possible, we will set a committee including regional state for more consultation and make the articles more detailed”.

Speaker of the Federal Parliament, Mohamed Osman Jawari urged journalists to serve their nation and avoid anything could ignite violence and conflict in the country.

Mr. Jawari said, " You journalists, you should take part in rebuilding your country, not the destruction, you have the microphones and pens to serve your people and increase community awareness, leave minor issues that are not necessary
Somali president, Hassan Sh. Mohamud is to sign the media law approved today by the Somali Parliament and then it will take affect according to the constitution.
