Sna,AU troops and elders step in to stop a deadly Somali clan fight
The fighting broke out last Sunday after armed clan militiamen attacked another militia at the city’s western Howlwadag village, over control of power and resources
Residents in the town remained indoors as fighting is escalating into full scale war. Many of them have already fled their houses because rival militias are still fortifying against potential attacks.
A senior Somali official in Beledweyne and unisom have intervene and said to be making progress to de-escalate the armed clashes. The feud between clans was the result of previous killings in the city.
Traditional clan elders, including Ugas Abdurahman Ugas Khalif, were also reported to be trying to mediate between the warring sides.
"Fierce fighting started on the sunday in Howlwadag village between two clans. It was all revenge killings,” said the official, on condition of anonymity.
