Former Defense Minister of the Somali Federal Republic, H.E. Mohamed Mursal Sh. Abdirahman has today on Monday won to be the Speaker of Lower House after defeating his competitor, Hon. Ibrahim Isak Yarow.

Deputy Speaker of the Parliament, Abdiweli Sh. Ibrahim Mudey announced the result, saying the winner is Mohamed Mursal in the third round.

” 266 members took part the voting, Mohamed Mursal and Ibrahim Isak were in the third round of the election, Mohamed Mursal got 147 votes while Ibrahim Isak Yarow got 118 votes, therefore, the winner is Mohamed Mursal Sh. Abdirahman and he is the new Speaker of the Parliament”, Mr. Mudey said.

Ibrahim Isak Yarow, the defeated candidate congratulated Mursal on winning the post of the Speaker, telling he would closely work the new speaker.

The elected Speaker, Mohamed Mursal thanked Parliamentarians for electing him,promising he would work on his program that he presented them earlier.

Mr.Mursal held many positions from the Federal Government of Somalia and he becomes the next speaker replacing Mohamed Sh. Osman Jawari who resigned early this month.
