There are inmates of diverse criminal charges detained in Baidoa central jail which is the biggest in Baay region.

The life standard of the prisoners in the jails is normal, although there some essential needs for the prisoners which are missing.

The Somali Prison Warden Force has been lately engaged in serious effort to change the life standard of the Prisoners in the detention centers in the countrywide and the conditions of the jails as well.

There is a famous slogan which the current Commander in Chief of the Somali Prison Warden Brigadier General Bashir Mohamed Jama has said when he took the office; "Our jails will never ever be where inmates are tortured and tormented, but will be rehabilitation centers where the inmates will gain knowledge and skills.”

This waves of changes commenced from Mogadishu central jail, where the lives of the inmates was so shocking before the current Commander took the office, initially the inmates used to take the floorboards when sleep comes and in a single room they used be congested of inmates which could cause suffocation, unlike know where each and every inmate has his bed to sleep with no residential of overcrowded rooms.

Above all there are air conditioner and TV screens in the rooms, so that they should be up to date about what is taking around them and in the other parts of the world, they should not also feel boring and have fun like the other people in the free air.

The prisoners in the Mogadishu central jail are being also taught diverse hand craft skills, and now they can manufacture all houses, office materials, saluting riffles during the parades and as well universities chambers.

The 2ndin Command of the Somali Prison Warden brigadier Elmi Waasuge Colow and other senior officials in the Prison Warden have recently visited Baidoa town the current base of the regional State of Southwest.

Brigadier Waasuge and his comrades took beds for the inmates and office furniture to Baidoa prison and in the next plan is to take air conditioners and TV screens for the entire rooms in the prison.

There is an ongoing construction of a modern standard prison at KM7 location in Mogadishu, this construction will be the first of its kind to be constructed in Somalia, the inmates will be having learning centers, places where the inmates will be having entertainments.
