The Minister of Defence, H.E. Ahmed Moallim Fiqi, together with the Minister of Interior, H.E. Ali Yusuf Ali (Xoosh), today officially inaugurated the rehabilitated Sabiib and Caanoole bridges in the Lower Shabelle region. The Ministers emphasised that the reopening of this key crossings will greatly enhance civilian mobility, stimulate local economic activity, and facilitate the movement and operational effectiveness of security forces. They further noted that the Government remains committed to implementing additional development and stabilisation projects aimed at strengthening the economic and security infrastructure across Lower Shabelle.

The reconstruction of this bridges forms part of the Government’s broader efforts to reinforce governance, restore freedom of movement, and consolidate security in areas liberated from Al-Shabaab terrorist group.

The ceremony was attended by the Commander of the Somali National Army Land Forces, Brig. Gen. Sahal Abdullahi Omar; the AUSSOM Force Commander, Lt. Gen. Sam Kavuma; and representatives from the Embassy of Türkiye. The officials welcomed the completion of the bridges and underscored their strategic value for civilian transport, humanitarian access, and ongoing security operations in the region.
