The Minister of Defence H.E. Ahmed Moalim Fiqi, officially received the military training facility in Baidoa, which was constructed and supported by the United Kingdom. The handover followed a meeting with the newly appointed UKinSomalia, Amb.Charles King.
The facility has now been formally transferred to the Ministry of Defence and will serve as a vital centre for the training and capacity-building of National Army personnel.
The ceremony was attended by senior officials from the British Embassy, including the Defence Attaché, Captain James Edwards.
Minister Fiqi conveyed his gratitude to the UK Government for its steadfast and continuous support to Somalia. He particularly emphasised the critical importance of the Baidoa facility in enhancing the professional development of our forces and in accelerating ongoing operations against Al-Shabaab.
