This marks the first time Somalia is hosting the meetings, which are being held in Mogadishu, while MoD is holding the Chairmanship for the year.

In his opening address, the State Minister warmly welcomed the delegates from EASF Member States, stating: "I extend a warm welcome to you all in Mogadishu, as we host the 34th Policy Organs Meetings of the Eastern Africa Standby Force for the first time. Hosting this meeting is a testament to the confidence regional states have in Somalia, and a reflection of the progress we have made in security and rebuilding our defence institutions.”

He further underscored Somalia’s firm commitment to the region’s strategic objectives, noting that the meeting reinforces the collective determination of Eastern African states to pursue peace, stability, and enhanced strategic cooperation. He stressed Somalia’s dedication to strengthening coordination and joint action, especially in the areas of defence and regional security.

The State Minister also noted the essential role played by the Eastern Africa Standby Force in safeguarding regional peace and responding effectively to security and humanitarian challenges. He described the Force as a cornerstone in the region’s pursuit of durable peace and stability.

The Ministry of Defence is honoured to host this high-level engagement, which reaffirms Somalia’s growing leadership role in regional peacebuilding and defence cooperation.
