Mogadishu, July 2, 2025 —Somalia's Minister of Defence, H.E. Ahmed Moalim Fiqi, along with senior officials from the Ministry, held a meeting today with a delegation from the European Union Training Mission in Somalia (EUTM-S), led by Colonel Riccardo Peretto, Head of the EUTM-S Advisory Team.

During the meeting, Minister Fiqi expressed his gratitude to the European Union for its continued support and fruitful cooperation with Somalia, particularly in the areas of security and rebuilding the country’s security institutions. He highlighted the critical role EUTM-Somalia plays in training and enhancing the capabilities of the Somali National Army, contributing significantly to efforts aimed at ensuring peace and national stability.

The EUTM-S delegation provided an overview of their ongoing support to the Ministry of Defence and discussed potential areas for further collaboration, aligned with the Ministry’s strategic priorities.

Minister Fiqi emphasized that the cooperation with EUTM-S comes at a crucial time, as the Ministry is undertaking wide-ranging reforms to establish a responsive and effective defence institution that meets the needs of the Somali people and aligns with national priorities.
