Mogadishu, May 28, 2025 – The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, H.E. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, today welcomed former international football legends at the Presidential Palace. The delegation included Samuel Eto'o, President of the Cameroon Football Federation, Emmanuel Adebayor, and Jay-Jay Okocha, who arrived in Somalia on a historic visit.

President Hassan Sheikh expressed his gratitude to the visiting football icons, noting that their visit is a testament to the improved security and ongoing recovery of Somalia. He emphasized the government's commitment to promoting sports and nurturing the talent of Somali youth.

"The Federal Government of Somalia is making significant efforts to develop various sports across the country and to showcase the talents of Somali youth in the field of sports," said the President.

He further stated that the visit of such renowned international football figures reflects the growing confidence the international community has in Somalia and highlights the progress the country is making—particularly in youth engagement and regional integration.

The event was also attended by the Minister of Youth and Sports of Somalia, H.E. Mohamed Abdiqadir Ali; President of the Somali Football Federation, Mr. Ali Abdi Mohamed; President of the South Sudan Football Association, Mr. Augustino Maduot Parek; and chairman of the Djibouti Football Federation, Mr. Souleiman Hassan Waberi.
